The Summer Hiatus Artist Sessions (get your hands dirty)

So as most of you know, M.I.A. is taking a summer break to catch up on some R&R. It’s been a great second year run, and we’re super psyched to continue on!

But just because it’s summer doesn’t mean we’re going to abandon the scene completely. After all, the Fresh Cafe has been so great at supporting the M.I.A. Art & Literary Series that they are letting us have our reserved third Thursday nights even over the summer months. So instead of offering up local artists for your entertainment, we thought it would be cool if YOU (that’s right, you the audience) got your hands dirty.

So what we’re doing is using the space for the Summer Hiatus Artist Sessions–a unique event that calls all artists (painters, writers, doodlers, day-dreamers, and so on) to the Fresh cafe on the 3rd Thursday of June, July, and August at 7:30 PM for a inspiration session. At every session there will be three experienced artists who will present prompts to the audience that will jump-start your creative juices in no time.  For each prompt you will get 20 minutes or so to write/draw/doodle/whatever. $1 gets you in the door (donations go to getting M.I.A. in shape for the Fall). The only thing you need to bring are your arty tools (if you have ’em) and your lazy brains (if you have ’em).

So come out to one or all of these sessions, which begin promptly at 7:30, and end at 9:30:

June 16th

July 21st

August 18th

Don’t let the summer be an excuse to slack on your creative endeavors. And if you don’t have any creative endeavors, but want them, join us!

As always, if you have any questions, email us at

RSVP to June’s session on Facebook!
