Aloha M.I.A. Art & Literary Series Performers & Fans!
One of our summer goals was to plan a way to get past M.I.A. performers’ work out there in the world, and let everyone know what a thriving art & literary community we have here in Honolulu. We thought one way of doing this was to make a documentary of the M.I.A. events and submitting it to BRAVO or MTV or the FOOD NETWORK in hopes for our own reality show, but unfortunately, we weren’t very good at documenting anything…
So onto to plan b….publishing a collection of work that will expose everyone everywhere to the great stuff we do through the M.I.A. Art & Literary Series. Sounds exciting, right?
And to do this, we need SUBMISSIONS! We’re currently seeking work from past M.I.A. performers/writers/artists/etc. If you’re interested in gaining some street cred. in the local community and beyond by being included in our very first print edition (of course you are), please submit your work to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’re taking poems, stories, essays, and photographs (of the events) for this particular volume.
Poetry: Please send 4-5 pages worth of poetry.
Fiction: Please send 2-12 pages of fiction.
Essays: Please send 2-10 pages of memoir, or any other sort of essay having to do with your participation with M.I.A., local communities, and the arts.
Photos: Please send 1-4 photos of any subject centered around the M.I.A. Art & Literary Series.
In the subject of the email use the following format: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, GENRE, M.I.A. DATE YOU PERFORMED (if applicable)
Submit your work as rtf. doc. docx. or jpeg. files. Although we’d love to publish the work you’ve read at an M.I.A. event exclusively, we are also considering new work as well. Also note that if you’ve attended one of the Summer Hiatus Artist Sessions and have produced work you would like M.I.A. to consider for the anthology, please feel free to submit.
DEADLINE: OCTOBER 30TH, 2011.
So spread the word! Email us with questions! And feel free to help us spread what we do here in Honolulu by donating!
If you would like to donate to The M.I.A. Art & Literary Series, please email us at email@example.com. All money will go to printing costs for the anthology. We appreciate ANYTHING you can give, as we are an independent non-organized organization with no non-profit status. That means your donations are appreciated but NOT tax-deductible. We do this simply for the love of the arts and to support the local artistic community. MAHALO!
